Missing Anne

Last night was kinda sad.

I had class from 5:30 to 8:20 and while it was a great class (I loved the book we were discussing, Faulker's As I Lay Dying) I missed an important TCNJ event.

Ann Coulter came to my school! And I missed it!

For those of you who don't know her, Wikipedia tells us Anne is "an American political commentator, syndicated columnist, and best-selling author.... Known for her controversial and confrontational style, Coulter has described herself as a polemicist who likes to 'stir up the pot' and, unlike 'broadcasters,' does not 'pretend to be impartial or balanced.'"

Basically, she's a liberal-hating conservative who says the craziest things! And so of course, I was dying to see her and see what craziness would spill forth from her lips last night!

Here are some of her past quotes:

""If we took away women’s right to vote, we’d never have to worry about another Democrat president. It’s kind of a pipe dream, it’s a personal fantasy of mine, but I don’t think it’s going to happen."

"God gave us the earth. We have dominion over the plants, the animals, the trees. God said, 'Earth is yours. Take it. Rape it. It's yours.'"

"Liberals become indignant when you question their patriotism, but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at dumb Americans who love their country and hate the enemy."

"Originally, I was the only female with long blonde hair. Now, they all have long blonde hair."

"If we're so cruel to minorities, why do they keep coming here? Why aren't they sneaking across the Mexican border to make their way to the Taliban?"

"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."

"And why is it 'homophobic' for Senate Republicans to look askance at sex in public bathrooms? Is the Times claiming that sodomy in public bathrooms is the essence of being gay? I thought gays just wanted to get married to one another and settle down in the suburbs so they could visit each other in the hospital."

but on the bright side:

"We (Republicans) just don't think they should get married. Liberals actually hate homosexuals."

And of course she's well-known for this gem:

"These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities and stalked by grief-arazzis... These self-obsessed women seemed genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them... I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much."

So anyway, I wanted to see her just to see what she would say.

But apparently, she was tame.

She only said a couple of controversial things, like that homosexuals and women don't have the right to claim they're 'victimized' and that only African-Americans do because of slavery.
And she said women are the moral beacon of society but they ruin it by showing their sexuality.

I actually did get there in time to see her. Kind of.

I ran from my class to Kendall Hall where she was speaking and as I walked through the doors she said, "Thank you, have a good night."
So technically I did see her!

A friend of mine refers to Anne as the Paris Hilton of the political world - she's famous for being famous. He argued that every time we talked about Anne Coulter, she made money, so the only way to stop her making money was to ignore her.

I actually find her incredibly amusing.

I'd imagine you then went straight home and scrubbed your eyes with bleach?

No idea who that woman is. She has no profile in Europe I don't think.

I remember reading Faulkner's 'As I Lay Dying' at university and really enjoying it :)

Jere: I find her amusing as well and often wonder if she is just working her schtick to make money rather than believing the venom she usually spits out.

I can indeed believe she doesn't like when women 'show their sexuality', cause there just ain't enough alcohol in world to make any man, woman, animal or piece of furniture wanna look at HER sexuality.

HUGS...

She needs a sandwich. Those arms are scarier than Madonna's.

Craig's right. She needs a sandwich, an arsenic sandwich.

So some kid at my school got arrested for trying to approach her after the talk. Apparently the cops called him names and were rough with him, refused to give him his glasses, etc. He has pics up of the damage from the cops. So the office of public relations' at my school just sent out an e-mail apologizing for the incident.... Hmm...

I have wondered if she is for real, or if she is merely portraying a caricature of a conservative zealot as a sort of art project for her financial enrichment.

I would like to believe that when people like her spout conservative views from an obviously bigoted perspective that it may cause some "social conservatives" to question the origin and basis of their own belief system.

Uggh, Faulkner. His pro-South attitudes fall completely flat on this Yankee boy.

Now Coulter, what an adams apple on that bitch, plus she has man hands. Are we sure she's not a guy doing drag?
