Paper Kitten Dream

Something pretty exciting happened to me today!

After I got home from work around 1pm, I hopped in my car with Ross and we drove through the rain and into Trenton.

Nope, I was not going to get drugs or a gun. Trenton is also home to an animal shelter, which was our destination. The shelter itself was kind of sketchy, but we made it there and picked up our new cat!

Isn't she adorable?!?!

We brought her home and she had a lot of fun in Ross and Christie's room, playing with plastic bags and cat toys, and running around the room exploring.

As we were documenting her first day home, she used the litter box for the first time! AWW!

That was her first visit, where she just peed. Her second visit was....... more interesting. It resulted in her first bath.

She is clearly not a fan of water, but as Ross pointed out, we need to get her accustomed to it for when she goes fishing!

After her bath, she licked her wet foot sadly.

And then continued to play. When Ross and I had to go to school, she tried to prevent Ross from tying his shoes

and then perched on his shoulder.

If you're wondering why I keep calling her "she," it's because we haven't agreed on a name yet. Ross and I want to call her either Esther Greenwood (after the main character in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar) or Remedios the Beauty (from Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude, one of my favorite characters ever), but Christie doesn't like those names, so we're still thinking.

But in the end, her name is not that important I guess. What's more important is that we are happy to have saved her from being murdered and we're excited to provide her with a nice home and train her how to do sweet tricks like doing the dishes and updating my blog when I'm too busy.

Now I just need to introduce her to Richard Parker.... or maybe not.

My feelings about cats are well documented. That said, she is on the adorable side (that's how they get you - they start as kittens).

Awe, very cute. Now you can submit a photo to Cute Boys with Cats, just like Josh! ;)

Be careful with plastic bags. I would imagine that could be a suffocation/strangulation risk for cats just like it is for kids.

My mother's cat loves me. Cocoa likes to snuggle with me whenever I come over. He loves to be pet. He is much more affectionate than our last cat. I prefer to visit pets rather than to own them.

Enjoy your new feline friend. :)

That first picture of you with the kitty is really adorable.

I'm with Christine, I'm not a huge fan of either name, however, that isn't important as she isn't my kitty.

Some food for thought:

The Naming Of Cats by T. S. Eliot
The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum-
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover--
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

OMG!!! How cute is that. She is adorable. I''m sure you'll find the perfect name. Just don't give her something that will cause other cats to tease her.

Secret Cat Diary (not written by Garret)

DAY 752 - My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from shredding the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant and cough it up on the carpeting.

DAY 761 - Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed (again).

DAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.

DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan...

DAY 768- I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo". What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth and the tiny bit of flesh under my claws.

DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies". Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.

DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time.

So cute!

I'd love to get a cat, but I want to wait until I have a bigger place (especially a place that has space for a litter box other than the living room).

I neglected to mention that Ross's beard is EPIC!

This is like the very best blog post ever, because: so much cuteness, and the saving from being murdered part, plus the awesome and moody IMO dashboard shot, and sharing the household's discussion about the name... yay!

Yeah, I was worried about Richard Parker all through this post. I'm not sure an introdution would be beneficial to him.

So is playful cute, which is a good thing. But don't be decieved. All cats are Spawns Of Satan. When the Catopalyse occurs, I'll try to make to Jersey to save you and Ross and Christie. And then we can go try to save Josherz. And then make the trek to Brooklyn to save David.

Or I could just sit home and laugh.

Which is what I'm sure you'll be doing watching the new kitty.

Congrats, and have fun with the cutie whatever you name her.

HUGS...

Cats on shoulders are the best. Bart allowed me to pop him up there last week. Little kitty is too too adorable. I love the photo of her standing on her hind legs. Cute overload.

Oh, but be very careful about kittens and plastic bags. They can be dangerous for choking, as little heads and necks can get stuck in the bag handles.

I've always wanted to teach a cat how to give a back massage.

I like Remedios the Beauty (but Beauty for short).
That last pic is wonderful.

She's an awfully adorable kitty, but my heart belongs to Richard Parker.
