In this week's Monday Music Moment, I will discuss some of my favorite songs that feat. days of the week in the song title!
Monday
"Monday Morning" by Fleetwood Mac
"Monday Morning" kicks off Fleetwood Mac's (second) self-titled album. And the song gets right to the point: "Monday morning you sure look fine / Friday I got traveling on my mind." Besides my Monday Music Moment and Josh's Monday Muse, what do people like about Monday?! Oh yeah, nothing. So this song kicks off my list because it is honest and a little bit reflective. Even though it turns into a love song a few lines in, the first few lines always stick out to me and I can almost relate to them. And I say "almost" because I got traveling on my mind on Tuesday, not Friday.
Other Monday Songs: "Monday Morning" by Maria Mena, "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & the Papas
Tuesday
"Tuesday Morning" by Michelle Branch
Anyone who was friends with me in 8th grade will not be surprised by my Tuesday song choice, "Tuesday Morning" by
Other Tuesday Songs: Umm.... none?
(Where are the Wednesday and Thursday tracks?!)
Friday
"Friday I'll Be Over U" by Allison Iraheta
Everyone needs to stop hating on Allison Iraheta! She may have been a
Other Friday Songs: "Friday" by Daniel Bedingfield (which I always hear playing in T.G.I. Friday's)
Sunday
"Sunday Drive" by The Early November
I've been a fan of The Early November for years now and have seen the lead singer Ace Enders live prox. 7 times. Since "Sunday Drive" is the first TEN song I ever heard, it holds a special place in my black heart. "Sunday Drive" is slow and sad, so obviously I love it! The song is about a drive (presumably on Sunday) that appears to signal the end of a relationship. As the two ex-lovers are driving about, the speaker says sad things like, "You know it's not so easy when you're all alone" and my favorite line, "What could you be doing that is so much fun / without me by your side?" After I heard this wonderfully depressing song, I found more TEN CDs and got obsessed and started
Other Sunday Songs: "Heavy Like Sunday" by Leona Naess, "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5
So did I miss any?!? And why are so many songs called "(Day of the Week) Morning"?!
28 comments:
what about "Never, Never On A Sunday"...although that's probably before your time.
"Friday I'm In Love" - The Cure
"Saturday Night" - Bay City Rollers (before you time as well)
"Manic Monday" - The Bangles
"I Don't Like Mondays" - Tori Amos
That's just off the top of my head. Although, when I started to read this, the FIRST thing that popping into my head, WAS "Monday Morning" by The Mac.
Seriously, Punkin, were it not for twenty years, about six inches in dheight and well over a hundred pounds,we could be twins!!
HUGS....
Well, you skipped Saturday completely, so yes, you missed a few.
Polt: I'm going to be singing "Never, never on a Sunday" all night long now. I also thought he missed "Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers. S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y-NIGHT! Great song.
I will offer:
"New Moon On Monday" Duran Duran
"Crying Like A Church On Monday" New Radicals
"Rainy Days and Mondays" The Carpenters
"Blue Monday" New Order
"Freaky Friday" Aqua
"Uptown Saturday Night" Logan 7
No Doubt also has a song called "Sunday Morning" that pretty snazzy...
Lindsay Buckingham was so hot back in the day!
What about "Why does it always rain on me?" by Travis?
Sunday Bloody Sunday -U2
Saturday Night's Alright -Elton John
Of course, there's always the Happy Days theme... that should cover it well! "Sunday, Monday Happy Days! Tuesday, Wednesday Happy Days! Thursday, Friday Happy Days! Saturday, what a day, Groovin' all week with you!"
Oh! And Stone Temple Pilots had a song called "Days of the Week." It mentions Mon, Tues, Weds, Thurs.
Cool post! :-)
I'm mad that John beat me to "Blue Monday" by New Order (one of their biggest hits) and Polt beat me to the Cure song >:-[ Those were two of my favorite bands back when I was still a young'un.
Polt did neglect to mention, however, that "Just Another Manic Monday" was written (horrifically enough) by Prince :P
"Tuesday Afternoon" by The Moody Blues is one I like.
"Another Saturday Night" by Cat Stevens
Polt - "I Don't Like Mondays" was originally by the Boom Town Rats. It was about Brenda Spencer, a teen who opened fire on an elementary school. My elementary school. What a day that was.
Oh, and I immediately thought of "Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers. I'll just go sit in a corner with john and Polt.
I'm joining you guys in the corner. I HAVE "Saturday Night" on my ipod. :-)
I think Eternal Lizdom had the best example that covers everyday of the week in one catchy earworm. Damn you woman.
Were you there when it happened Michelle? Holy crap!
"Your My Sunday" by: Jessica Simpson!!
I know how much you love her!! :o)
tj
Welcome to Polt's Corner Of Commenters Who Date Themselves By Their Musical Knowledge!
Michelle M.: I knew it was done by Bob Geldolf's band first, but I refused to use Google to look up their name, that just seemed like cheating. So I used Tori instead.
And i had no IDEA you were involved in all that!!!!
Oh HOW could I forget blue Monday??????
HUGS...
Hey, Michelle -- you mean sit in a corner with John and ME and Polt.
Though personally although I'm old enough to remember when the Moody Blues were fresh, I prefer to forget. Just like I prefer to forget almost all music from the 70s.
Somebody beat us all to this list, by the way:
http://www.listology.com/list/songs-days-week-title-please-add-more
I'm gonna cry cause Juston shunned me from the corner with Polt and John and him and Michelle. *sniff* Fine, I'll take my plaid pants (and shirt and scarf) and go home.
I stayed home from school that day, but my brother went. It was a sad day.
In other news: It will be a happy corner! We'll play all the groovy seventies songs (sorry Justin) and make fun of the stuff that Joshrico listens to.
I forgot about "Saturday Love" which mentions all the days of the week and will leave you with a nasty earworm. Listen if you dare:

Aww Tam I'm sorry I missed you, *grabs for hand and pulls into corner for big hug* :-)
If we're going to listen to music from the 70s can we at least limit it to the late 70s? -- i.e. mostly Disco & Punk with a few other exceptions including Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. I'm voting for "Got to be Real" by Cheryl Lynn, "Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)" by the Buzzcocks, "Love Will Tear us Apart" by Joy Division, and pretty much ANYTHING by Devo ;-)
... except of course we'll have to listen to those songs in a corner in a thread that DOESN'T have to do with Songs about Days of the Week. Sorry, Enrico -- I had a momentary lapse where I forgot the point of your original post :->
Whip it, whip it good!
Telepopmusik - Tuesday
Asobi Seksu - Thursday
Daniel Beddingfield - Friday
Lilly Allen - Friday Night
Fall Out Boy - Saturday Night
Kaiser Chiefs - Saturday Night
Nelly Furtado - Saturdays
The Early November - Sunday Drive
oh wait you said daniel beddingfield. but the rest
Our corner kicks a55! All the cool kids are there. Can we date other people though? I'm tired of dating myself. Though technically, I think I'm the baby of the group (Thanks Michelle!).
Michelle: I'm glad you weren't at school that day and that your brother survived as well!
Wowwww, I only knew one song and that was Michelle Branch. Guess I'll be going to youtube after this to see the rest of them.
Okay just listened to The Early November.
I"M OBSESSED>
The only one I could think of was Manic Monday, which someone already said.
I like the song but the line "I wish it were a Sunday, cause that's my fun day!" always bugged me.
Who's fun day is Sunday? Why not Saturday?! Sundays are annoying because you have to go back to school/work the next day!
Polt: 1960... Hmm... That MIGHT be before my time. I do like the "bong bong bong bong" part! But seriously?! You can't kiss on Sunday cause you have to rest?! Kissing isn't that intense!
I know "Friday, I'm In Love" and "Manic Monday" but they were too funky and played out to make the cut! :)
john: I like the "Rainy Days and Mondays" one cause a depressed-looking woman sings it! It's like Joni-lite. And Aqua has more than one song?!
Ray: "Sunday Morning" is nowhere as good as Gwen's "Cool"!
George: I think so too!!! But no one agrees with me. My poetry professor was confused by my ode to L. Buck.
Liz: I have two Elton John records and love them both! I have to get more. And you picked the best 'days of the week' song!
Justin: Ack! Prince is 1,000 years old! And that list is dumb. I did a whole blog entry feat. photoshopped pics!
Michelle: I like "Another Saturday Night," "Cats in the Cradle" and "The First Cut is the Deepest." I feel like Cat Stevens is someone I would dig if I knew more of his music! Are you surprised since he's old?!
TJ: Ugh sick! Better than GaGa and Glambert and Ludacris.
Corner: You can not listen to music from the 70s and exclude JONI!!!
Nick-Nifty: I got TEN's "Sunday Drive"! It was one of the main ones.
Jacob: Do that! You'll be glad. I have amazing music taste.
hmwhat: GOOD. Buy all of their CDs and we can do a duet. But since you actually know how to sing, I'll just do background vocals.
Craig: Sundays are usually lame!
Enrico: Aqua has two cds and are in the process of making another one! I have to tell you, there is WAY more than "Barbie Girl". Which, while a good song, is not my favorite of theirs. I may have to have you email me your address so I can edjamacate you on their brilliance.
*prince is 1,000 years old*
:-|
Prince is like ... only two years older than ... me.
:-P
Seriously John? Aqua is making a new CD? MUST check that out.
Tam: That is what I heard! I'm actually quite excited about it. I loved both of their cds. Total sugary pop.
I keep looking @ the title of this blog and thinking immediately about that mediocre Sugar Ray song about leaving halos on bed posts and one night stands or something. VOM.
